Spend Your British Airways Miles NOW!

Avios points will be upon us in just a few days now, November 16th. If you haven’t already used your British Airway’s miles you still have time before the transition. You can book online until November 14th and over the phone until November 15th.

Do you have to use your BA miles before then? No. Your BA miles will transition to Avios points 1:1, but due the imminent extinction of the current BA partner rewards chart and the secrecy of their new unified partner rewards chart it might be worth liquidating your assets so to say. In my opinion because of the high taxes and fees that BA charged their was very little reason to use BA miles redeeming on BA. An economy flight to London was 50,000 miles and upwards of $500 in taxes and fees, not much of a deal. The real joy of the BA executive club was flying their partners. On their partners you could previously book great seats with low taxes and fees. First class flights to South America, for example, could be had for as little as 80,000 miles on one of their partners.

My feeling, if the Avios partner chart was going to be a good thing for their customers they would have already let the cat out of the bag.

In case you were wondering, I cleaned out my 210,000 BA miles earlier this month. We’ll see if I made the right move November 16th.
